Thank you to everyone who has donated to help us transform the lives of preschool children in Malawi. Our preschool project in Lauji is well on the way and it would not be possible without the support of our donors. We would like to acknowledge Sportech in particular for their generous contribution of €2500 towards this project, we are very grateful for their support.
The project has officially started in Lauji. Educational resources have been bought for the school and we have donated black boards, posters, books, puzzles, art supplies, building blocks, balls, balloons, bubbles, educational mats, copies, stationary and toys. Once the new building is built we will provide some tables and benches.
The kids are very excited to have some toys and the teachers are very happy to have some teaching resources.
We have started paying allowances for two teachers Grace and Ester and will continue to do this for 12 months.
The preschool snack program has officially started and DIN will be providing a small snack to the children each day.
DIN has also been spreading awareness of the importance of early childhood education in the community and a door to door campaign has commenced to encourage parents to send their children to school every day. We are happy to report that already the attendance at the preschool has increased.
The teachers training is currently being arranged and will take place during the summer holidays.
The planning has commenced for the building of the new school. The Chief has extended the land where the new preschool will be built. The community has started clearing the land and preparing the mud bricks for construction. We hope to start building the new school in July and have it completed by September, when the new school year starts.
This building will not just be used as a preschool but will be a multi-purpose building that can be used by the whole community. The community can also use the building for adult education classes, youth groups, women empowerment groups and HIV/AIDS awareness activities. So this project will not just improve the lives of the children, but of the whole community.
